Where & When It Started
Madhubani art originated in Bihar’s Mithila region over 2,500 years ago.
According to mythology, King Janaka asked artists to decorate the kingdom during the wedding of Sita and Rama from the epic Ramayana. This is believed to be one of the earliest inspirations behind Madhubani paintings.
Why It Was Created
Women painted walls and floors to:
